Fire Alarms

A building or local fire alarm system provides audible and/or visible alarm signals as the result of the manual operation of a fire alarm pullstation, the automatic operation of a fire detector, such as a smoke or heat detector, or the automatic operation of protective equipment, such as a sprinkler system. Various factors such as local codes, building size, and occupancy class will affect the requirements for these systems. Some features typically found in these systems include but are not limited to voice evacuation, fire-fighter communication, and computer video graphic annunciation.

A home fire alarm system is usually part of a total security system providing burglary protection in addition to fire protection. Such a system supervises doors, windows, and spaces within the home for break-in and may provide monitoring services by dialing your telephone to report a fire or intrusion to a security office, where it will be reported to your local police or fire department.
